let's keep it moving in a forward motion
who: Mikado + Asuna
what: Engagement ring shopping! :> Because having her pick it out is the best decision, right?
where: Seahaven → Ikebukuro
when: Present?? So late July.
warnings: The usual Mikado-level awkward, probably. That much hasn't changed.
In hindsight, proposing seemed like the easiest part.
As stressful and uncertain as it had been at the time, Mikado had been confident (somewhat) (a little) (okay, just slightly) as to what Asuna's answer would be; everything after that, however, was a huge unknown, and the weight of that commitment was quickly settling itself on his shoulders.
He didn't regret anything, of course. Not for a second. There were just some moments -- moments like today -- when his ignorance caught up with him and he realized that he really knew nothing about what to expect, or even what was expected of him in the months and years to come. It was stressful, to say the least, or it was starting to be, enough that even his happiness at the Havens' return had toned down a bit.
Still, there was comfort in the fact that he wasn't handling all this uncertainty alone. That was the whole point. And that was why today, finally -- resolutely -- Mikado had offered to take care of a matter that had been neglected long enough.
He was ready to go, so he killed time waiting for Asuna to join him by setting out food for the lizards. With as many as there were now, and their mindsets being divided by the fact that there were three different owners between them all, mealtimes would have once been asking for an ugly squabble; fortunately, even that had ironed out over time. Admittedly, feeding them now was also a way of distracting them long enough for Mikado and Asuna to get out the door. He'd taken them around Ikebukuro plenty of times, but considering the occasion, well... This was a time for just the two of them.
That, and Mikado was determined to put some distance between Kanshi and himself. The firelizard's behavior had turned... erratic lately, and that was putting it mildly. He'd had the reptile long enough to realize that distance wouldn't do a whole lot to dampen the connection, but he'd also realized that the behavior was worst at the hottest time of the day, usually noon; it was still early morning, so as long as they finished up in Ikebukuro and got home around then, the most awkward of situations could be avoided. Hopefully.
How long would it take Asuna to pick out a ring, anyway? Surely not that long.
